I know I said this about February, but seriously, how is it March already?! Time flies, and all that, right? But I’m okay with March showing up. I’m pretty pumped about it, for a couple of different reasons actually, both personal and professional, which I think is pretty exciting.
March is a pretty big deal in our house. My brother and I both share a birthday this month which has always been special. We have a few cousins that have March birthdays too. But March became even more special when it was the month Phillip and I became parents last year. And so in a few weeks we will be celebrating Felicity’s first birthday, which I am pretty excited about. And if you’ve been catching the last few posts, you know I’ve been in a serious planning and cleaning mode over at my house. I promise once her birthday has passed I won’t constantly be blogging about it. But until then, its kind of a huge deal over here, so forgive this first time mama. 😉
March also marks the closing out of my first month blogging full time! You may have caught February’s Blog Goals, where I laid out a few goals that I had set for myself when I decided to take on my blog as a full time endeavor. I’m really glad that I was transparent with you guys, because everyone was so supportive. But it also helped me to have a clear picture of what I wanted to try and accomplish that month.
So, how did I do with my February Recap?
Reexamine my blogging schedule and my work/life balance.
In January, I was trying really hard to crank out five posts a week. Which a lot of bloggers out there can manage just fine. But I am still trying to learn so much as far as all the technical stuff, plus all the details that go into promoting posts, then throw in a family into the mix, along with any other responsibilities that I had at the time, and things were just getting really out of control. So I decided to take a step back and try and produce three posts a week. That way I can spend three nights working on posts, three nights working on behind the scenes tasks, and one night completely blog free. I’m still perfecting the rhythm of it all, but it has been working really well for both my family and my sanity. I’m much happier with what I’m producing while feeling like I’m actually learning what I need to to take Eat.Raise.Run to the level I want it to be.
Unplugging for family time.
This is still very much a work in progress for me. And I’m not sure I’ll ever have it mastered. But like I said above, its getting better.
Learning and organizing social media.
I’m going to give myself a B with social media. I feel like I made some serious headway with Pinterest and Instagram this month. Found some strategies that are really working for me. With Twitter, there is still very much a learning curve. But we’re getting there!
Working on the photography skills.
I have graduated past the auto mode! I’m so excited to be able to say that. Again, there is still so much I don’t know. But I am enjoying so much of what I’m learning. And I have a really cute photographer for a husband teaching me. That helps things…
Start working on building my newsletter and email list.
This may be the goal that I am most excited about! It took me all month, but I finally got my newsletter and email list up and running! This is probably such an easy thing for most bloggers, but it was a huge deal for me. I was just hitting a wall at every creative turn with what my opt-ins would be, which email list group to go with, how to set it up, etc. But now its up, and I’m so excited to share it with you guys!
And that’s really the thing about my newsletter. It’s no secret that I don’t know everything there is to know about blogging. But I’m learning, and I want to share what I’m learning, what’s working and what’s not, with those who are interested in knowing what I’ve figured out so far. Try and save others the heartache and hassle that I’ve gone through, stumbling through this crazy blogging journey so far. And for signing up with me, you’ll get your FREE Beginners Blogging Survival Guide. A checklist helping you figure out the steps you’ll need to kick start your own awesome blogging journey!
Look into re-branding ERR.
I’m still shopping around on this one. I don’t want to just run out and get any ol’ design. So I’m really taking my time to find just the right aesthetic. So stay tuned on that one.
So what does March have in store?
- Make sure baby girl has a wonderful first birthday, and make sure mom and dad take time to really soak up the importance of the moment. I mean, she only gets one first birthday.
- Now that my latest race is over, tackle a new fitness challenge.
- Keep shopping around for that perfect new ERR design.
- Build more traffic.
- Continue to grow newsletter.
- Grow a stronger social media presence. I will master Twitter!
- Figure out if there are ways to monetize ERR, without loosing what I love about it. Definitely some little fish, big pond syndrome going on with that one. So we’ll see…
There you have it! I think March is shaping up to be a fun one! I’m really happy with how February played out, so I’m even more excited to see what March has in store!
I’m eager to know what are your March goals? I’d love to hear about it in the comments! Who knows, I might need to add one or two to mine.
